Portland Drunk Driver Gives New Meaning To “Drive Through”
A Maine woman said she was following her GPS navigation when she made a wrong turn and crashed into a local police station over the weekend, but according to authorities she was simply intoxicated.
A 26-year-old woman drove through the Portland Police Department garage, crossed the pedestrian plaza, then attempted to drive down the stairs onto Middle Street, police said.
The woman claimed she had been following directions from her GPS navigation, however, the responding officers were certain that it was her excessive blood alcohol level that led to the crash.
Police said it was lucky that the woman did not hit anyone during the incident. No injuries were reported, and police said the crash resulted in minor property damage.
The woman, whose identity was not released, got a citation for operating under the influence of alcohol.
Facebook users couldn’t resist poking fun at the incident.
“I’ve been really drunk before but I’ve never ‘drived by the police department’ drunk,” one user wrote.
Another said: “Maybe her GPS knew she was drunk and thought it would take her where she needed to be, instead of where she wanted to be.”
“I wish all gps put drunk drivers in jail,” another user replied.
