Good Samaritans Help Florida State Trooper Attacked On The Interstate
A group of good Samaritans came to the aid of a Florida Highway trooper after he was attacked on an interstate in Tampa on Friday.
Dashcam video of the encounter shows the trooper informing 24-year-old Alexander Hernandez Delgado, that it is illegal to walk on the interstate.
Delgado told the officer that he was an artist and that he was walking on the interstate because his mother had kicked him out of the house.
“I then searched the subject and attempted to place him in the back of my patrol car. The subject became argumentative and stated that I am bothering him and that he would like to be left alone,” the trooper wrote in the report. “The subject then pulled away and then threw a punch with his left hand that [struck] me in the face.”
The suspect can be seen hitting the trooper in the face before the two go off-camera into the median, where according to the trooper, Delgado struck him several more times.
When witnesses saw the trooper needed assistance they pulled over and jumped in to help subdue Delgado.
“The FHP thanks all the Good Samaritans that stopped on I-4, in both directions, on Friday morning, March 18th in Tampa to help our Trooper,” a spokesman for the FHP said in a statement.
The trooper sustained a bloody nose as a result of the incident.
Delgado was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
It is indeed a thin blue line that protects us. So it’s good to see citizens come to their help.
