74-Year-Old Golfer Goes Ballistic – Shoots Man For Walking Dog On Course
A 74-year-old golfer shot and wounded a 64-year-old man Sunday because he was walking his dog on a Florida golf course.
Robert Levine chased Herbert Merritt around a tree Sunday evening firing off five rounds to the astonishment of the entire country club. Merritt was walking his dog and was hit in the left ankle by a bullet, according to the police report.
The incident unfolded near the 15th hole at the Kings Point Golf Course in a 55-plus gated community located in Delray Beach.
Levine sped his golf cart toward Merritt who tried to run away.
Witnesses said Levine also kicked Merritt’s head and later hit him with a golf club while holding a weapon in his other hand.
Merritt told authorities that he did not know Levine and that he did nothing to instigate the altercation. He said that “he felt like Levine was trying to kill him.”
Levine was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Merritt was treated for his injuries and is expected to recover.
