Mary Renwick, a candidate for the Monroe Public Schools Board of Education in Michigan

Trump Supporters Targeted in School-Board Candidate’s Graphic Death-Wish Meltdown

A Michigan school-board candidate is facing backlash after a video showed her attacking Trump supporters and saying they should “burn down to the ground” because they did not deserve to breathe.

Mary Renwick is running for a seat on the Monroe Public Schools Board of Education. She made the remarks after Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis in January. Reports about the encounter remain disputed, including the claim that Good tried to run the agent over with her car.

Renwick blamed people who voted for President Donald Trump for what happened. She said Good was not a threat, argued that she was escaping one, and called ICE “the terrorists.” She also denounced MAGA supporters as “cultists” and said the country was no longer America.

Renwick then said she hoped to live long enough to see Trump supporters either burned or locked up. She ended the recorded outburst with, “F*** all of you!” The remarks turned a local education campaign into a flashpoint over political hostility and judgment.

Libs of TikTok shared the video on X and asked whether Renwick was the right person to help oversee children’s education. Michael A. Rothman, publisher of the Rothman Report, criticized the contrast between seeking a school-board seat and using language aimed at a large share of the country’s parents. He urged Michigan parents to remember the clip.

Renwick’s fundraising page presents her as the owner of MJR Photography, an active Monroe community member and the mother of three children. It says one recently graduated from Monroe High School, another is currently in high school, and a third is entering Cantrick.

The Monroe News reported that eight candidates are running for three four-year seats. Incumbent Brian Sabbadini is not seeking reelection. Thomas Heck and Darla Myers are running again, joined on the ballot by Laura Petee, Cindy Flynn, Amanda Hawes, Pansy Heath, Jesse Mayo and Renwick.

Why It Matters

This matters because a school-board contest is local, but Renwick’s video brings a national political fight into a decision about who should help guide a district. Parents and other voters are being asked to judge more than a candidate’s position on a disputed national event. They must also weigh the public judgment and language of someone seeking a role connected to their children’s schools. That makes the controversy relevant even to people who do not share the political conflict that triggered it.

The Minnesota shooting creates a separate question that should not be lost in the uproar. The source describes a fatal encounter involving an ICE agent, while acknowledging that the account of Good’s actions remains contested. Renwick treated her own interpretation as settled and directed her anger at a broad group of Trump supporters. The video therefore links an unresolved incident to a much wider argument about political blame and acceptable public speech.

The open issue is how Monroe voters will weigh the video as they consider a crowded field for the available seats. The report documents the backlash, but it does not show how the controversy will affect the campaign or whether Renwick will answer the criticism. That leaves local families to decide what standards of restraint, judgment and representation they expect from a school-board candidate.

Renwick remains on the ballot alongside seven other candidates competing for three seats, leaving Monroe voters to weigh the video as they decide who should represent the district.
