Three college students were attacked near a Wingstop by the University of Cincinnati, and a group of youths took their electric scooters, according to WKRC.
All three victims were 18-year-old female freshmen. They had ridden their scooters to the restaurant for dinner. As they approached a crosswalk, at least eight older teenagers were positioned near the Wingstop and blocked their path.
The students said the encounter began with shouting, profanity and threats. One told WKRC, “We were bombarded by yelling and cussing and threats.” Another said her friend was punched in the face while four girls attacked her. The victims also described men assaulting another student. They said the whole confrontation happened quickly.
Video supplied to WKRC shows several youths striking the women while others take the scooters. The footage includes repeated blows to one student’s face and a separate assault on another. It is graphic and may be disturbing.
All three students were taken to UC Medical Center. One victim’s mother said her daughter was crying in the back of an ambulance after being injured. The confrontation happened Wednesday night, and the students spoke with WKRC about it on Friday.
Four arrests leave police searching for more
Police arrested four youths and charged them with aggravated robbery. One victim recovered her scooter. Police were still looking for the other suspects connected to the confrontation.
Parents say the latest violence demands action
The attack came as families connected to UC were already worried about safety. WKRC reported five shooting incidents around the university between late August and early September, with seven people shot during that period.
That record has pushed parents to demand more protection around the campus. One parent asked, “What has to happen for us to get more security in that area?” The parent added that no family should have to wait until a student loses their life before officials act.
Ohio Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy responded to the video on Sunday. He called the incident “the sad state of lawlessness on the streets of Cincinnati” and said people across Ohio should hear about it and understand the stakes at the ballot box. He closed with a call to end “this madness.”
