Passengers Terrified As Plane Catches Fire

It was chaos on a Spirit Airlines flight when the jet caught fire and passengers could see and smell smoke and headed for the exits … until flight attendants calmly told them to, “Please remain seated.”

 

After the airplane landed Sunday morning at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, a fire started around the landing gear. Once some of the passengers noticed, panic set in, and they jumped up to evacuate — but the crew quickly took charge of the situation.

Flight attendants instructed passengers to get back in their seats and leave the aisles clear. Fortunately, they were able to maintain calm, and everyone got off the plane safely once it was towed to a gate.
Spirit says the fire started when the plane’s brakes overheated.
