Florida Gator Takes A Dip In The Family Pool
A Florida family discovered a gigantic alligator relaxing in their backyard pool early Tuesday morning.
The family woke up to loud noises coming from their backyard and found that the nearly 11-foot, 550-lbs beast had torn through the screen to take a dip in the water, according to Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials worked quickly to secure the animal with a specialized alligator trapper. They removed the monstrous creature from the premises without incident.
There have only been only 401 registered alligator attacks in Florida since 1948 according to AZAnimals. Alligator attacks are rarely fatal but eight people died from alligator attacks between 2010 and 2019, according to the website.
Officials have warned that unusual behavior by these mega predators is likely on the rise with the beginning of the mating season.
A 12-foot, 504-lbs alligator is suspected of killing a Louisiana man in 2021 after his remains were found inside of its stomach. “A lot of human-alligator conflicts occur when alligators get provoked, both intentionally and unintentionally, or when alligators go after people’s pets,” an assistant professor of biology at the University of North Florida said.
