Irate Woman Sues Over Bad Date
What’s the best course of action after a bad date? Block them on Social Media? Delete every dating app from your phone? Perhaps you should consider taking them to court?
A Michigan woman decided to sue a man for $10,000 after their date went south.
QaShontae Short took her date Richard Jordan to court in Flint, Michigan, alleging that he caused intentional infliction of emotional distress after their date went wrong.
After she was stood up by her date, Short decided to take him to court to answer for his actions.
The recent court hearing over Zoom saw QaShontae Short yell at Judge Herman Marable Jr when he attempted to explain the definition of perjury to her.
Ms. Short refused to answer the District judge’s questions and repeatedly demanded that he did not ‘insult [her] intelligence’.
In a viral video from the trial, Richard Jordan told the judge that he had been sued because of one bad date.
“To be honest with you sir, I thought this was just gonna be thrown out,” he said.
“We had a date, one date, and nothing else after that, and now I’m being sued for $10,000. I think this is a waste of your time.”
Eventually, after Short’s microphone was muted, Judge Marable Jr ordered for her suit to be moved to a circuit court.
He stated: “I am ordering that this go to seventh circuit court. The venue is to be changed because intentional infliction of emotional distress is a circuit court matter outside the jurisdiction of the district court.
“Plaintiff shall pay the filing fees in the receiving court and I don’t know if you asked for a jury trial or not, you did not, so there was no jury fee.
“No further proceedings shall be had after transfer until costs or expenses have been paid. If not paid within 56 days of the date of this order, this will be dismissed by the court to which it was transferred.”
So while Jones just might get her date – it won’t be as romantic as she might have originally planned.
